Health expo held at HO Nash school

STUDENTS, staff and parents learned how to adopt healthy lifestyles during a health expo at HO Nash Junior High School.

The expo brought together several organisations and vendors from the healthcare and fitness industries.

Representatives of the Public Hospitals Authority, the Healthy Lifestyles Initiative, and the College of the Bahamas Culinary Arts Programme joined health food vendors, homeopathic providers and fitness companies to provide informative and fun interactive displays.

They spoke about good nutrition, physical exercise and prevention of obesity and chronic non-communicable diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure.

Nurses from the Healthy Lifestyle Initiative screened parents and staff members for hypertension and diabetes, and offered waist measurements and weight checks to those attending.

Representatives of the College of the Bahamas discussed healthy recipes while trainers from Club One demonstrated simple exercises.

The health expo was the brainchild of the school’s Guidance Department head, Sherry Straughn, and capped off Health Week at HO Nash.
