FREEPORT – At the monthly general meeting of the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce, the president, directors and members said they were delighted to welcome Cuban Ambassador Ernesto Soberon Guzman during his first official visit to the island.
During the lunch, Ambassador Guzman spoke to the attendees and highlighted the growing economy of his country, and its intention to update current operating systems and create good relations and business opportunities between Cuba and the Bahamas.
Ambassador Guzman discussed his country’s desire to export services in a multitude of fields and highlighted the medical services that are available in Cuba for everyone.
He also addressed gas and oil issues that are of great concern to both countries.
“We, like the Bahamas, are also concerned about the rise in gas prices and it effects on our country’s economy” he said. “We are reluctant about oil drilling but know that our neighbours are drilling and we feel we must be part of the discussion.”
The Ambassador highlighted the Havana Industrial Fair to be held in November 2103 and invited all Bahamians in business to consider attending.
“The fair not only showcases Cuban services and products but highlights the entire Caribbean’s products, we encourage Grand Bahamians to attend and consider investing with us and we with you,” he said.
First vice-president of the chamber, Anthony Lopez, thanked the Ambassador for his informative presentation.
