THE Bahamas Kennel Club Dog Show opened on Saturday and continued through Sunday at the grounds of Bahamas Food Services on Gladstone Road.
Featuring dogs from Canada, the United States and the Bahamas in confirmation, with classes in obedience, rally and agility, the show represented all areas of canine competition.
Taking top honours by winning Best in Show on Saturday was a Coton de Tulear, Haskap Du Domaine De Polana, owned by Marie France Prayal.
Taking Best in Show Local on Saturday was Garshengan’s Shot through the Heart, owned by Camille Cleare.
On Sunday, top honours went to the Miniature Schnauzer, AM CH Krystal’s Smash and Grab with Shorline’s Luva Boy, a Miniature Pinscher owned by Elizabeth Williams taking Local Best in Show.
The Obedience Ring was busy both Saturday and Sunday with dogs competing at different levels of obedience as well as rally events.
A number of dogs achieved new titles and High Trial Local on Saturday went to Maureen Koepp of Abaco with her Shetland Sheepdog Summerlove’s Bark of the Bay.
Junior handlers also competed, showing their skills in the ring.
The Agility Events were popular with everyone and the Agility Relay that pitched Abaco, Nassau and the United States in competition was a real crowd-pleaser.
The United States came out on top but the girls from Abaco were hot on their heels and next year the winners of the relay may well be a Bahamian team.
The BKC features special classes for neutered and spayed dogs. Taking Best Potcake for the second year in a row was Hank, owned by Jean Knowles.
Best Mixed Breed was Toby owned by Caroline and Donna Kiriaze and Best Purebreed was CH Rebelstar Bahamian Jedi, a standard poodle owned by Nancy Knowles.
“We are grateful to our sponsors Purina, Bahamas Food Services, Lowe’s Pharmacy and Merial (Frontline) for their support of our show,” said Lynn Gape, BKC vice president.
“We particularly want to thank Purina for their support not just of the show but our agility and obedience training initiatives throughout the year.”
If you are interested in learning more about showing your dog or competing in Obedience and Agility leave a message on the Bahamas Kennel Club’s Facebook page and they will get in touch with you so that you are ready for the show next year.
