FREEPORT – A family in the Hudson Estates area are the latest victims of the ongoing spree of armed robberies and break-ins in Grand Bahama.
This was the fourth incident reported in the Freeport area within a week, and police are trying to determine whether the incidents are related.
In each case, the victims reported that a man armed with a handgun and wearing dark clothing and a mask, entered their homes during the early morning hours and robbed them at gunpoint.
The string of armed robberies occurred between the hours of 2am and 6.30am.
Inspector Terecita Pinder, press liaison officer, reported that police received a report around 2am of an armed robbery at Hudson Estates.
The male resident told police that at around 1.50am, a man entered his family’s home.
The culprit, he said, was armed with a handgun and demanded cash.
The gunman robbed the man of a brown and tan bag containing $1,800 cash and fled the scene on foot.
Inspector Pinder said the suspect, who was described as being between 5’ 10” to 6’ tall and of slim build, was wearing dark clothing, a hood and a mask.
Similar armed robbery incidents were reported at Settler’s Way and Man A-War Circle last Tuesday. And a third incident occurred at Gough Lane on Monday.

In other crime news, police seized a large quantity of ammunition in an upscale residential community on Monday. Sometime around 1.50pm, officers went to a residence in the area of Royal Palm Way. During a search of the home, officers discovered a red and black suitcase, containing six AK47 magazines, one handgun barrel, and an assortment of AK47
manuals, two anti gun locks, one knife and case, one gun cleaning kit, one rifle cleaning kit, one handgun case, 147 - .9mm rounds; 110 - 7.62 rounds; 150 - .45 rounds; 70- .357 rounds; six .9mm magazines, two with extended clips ;and one .40 magazine.
