AFTER votes were rounded up the American Idol results were revealed last Thursday. A shock to many, contestant Curtis Finch Jr was eliminated after loosing the bottom two battle to contestant Devin Velez.

Curtis’ elimination started a bit of a stir, as judge Nicki Minaj threatened to leave the show if Curtis did. We all know that this season opened with what people are calling “staged drama,” so viewers will never know if Nicki was as serious as a heart attack, or just simply “doing her job.”

After host Ryan Seacrest called Curtis’ name to sing for survival, Nicki, sitting next to judges Keith Urban, Randy Jackson and Mariah Carey was seen getting up out of her seat.

Curtis poured his heart out singing R Kelly’s “I believe I Can Fly” for the judges. Sharing kind words, Mariah told him: “I am completely shock that this is where we are at. I mean, Curtis knows that he is one of my favourites. This entire situation has been about Curtis in a lot of ways for me. We’ve had a connection and we still do.”

The judges were faced with the decision to either use their one save of the season, or let Curtis go.

Delivering the bad news, Randy told the audience that their decision as judges, was not unanimous, “unfortunately”. Curtis said his goodbyes and was sent packing.

The top three contestants to make it through and receive the highest number of votes were Candice Glover, Kree Harrison and Angela Miller.

The girls are still in the lead, and some viewers are already making their predictions that a female will carry this year’s title.

One Bahamian viewer said: “If one of those girls, Candice preferably, do not win this season, then they need to shut this show down. It is obvious, every week, that the girls this season are more talented than the guys. The guys can sing, but the women are doing way better.”

Another viewer said: “The women are carrying this competition. At the end of the day it is a singing competition, and you have to judge off of who is doing it the best. I would really like to see one of them win though.”

Last week, viewers also got the chance to see the two contestants that were chosen to compete for a spot on the American Idol Summer Tour. A few weeks ago, it was revealed that two contestants, previously cut from the top 20, would be back on stage to compete for this spot.

The two wild-card contestants chosen were Aubrey Cleland and Charlie Askew. Aubrey sang “Out Here On My Own,” and Charlie went for “Sky Blue Diamond.” They both did well, but we did not get to see the results just yet. Viewers were asked to vote on FOX.com and tune in for the results this Wednesday.

This week, the top nine will be singing songs by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
