A 17-year-old girl is being treated for severe burns and other wounds after she was stabbed in the head and had acid thrown in her face in what was reportedly a domestic dispute.
According to sources in the Fox Hill community, the girl had been in a relationship with her attacker, who is now said to be on the run from police.
At the time of the incident, the victim was reportedly at home with her mother, who was also burned by acid in the attack.
The girl was rushed to hospital, but has now been taken to Boston, where she has relatives, for further treatment.
The incident is said to have taken place on Saturday.
When asked last night, police confirmed that such an attack had taken place, however it did not appear in the Monday crime report.
Also not in the report was a gang rape of a school girl in Long Island – the second such incident that was not reported, the first having taken place in New Providence, according to opposition MP Loretta Butler-Turner.
However, the police claimed yesterday that the reason the Long Island rape was not reported to the press was because it was never brought to their attention.
This comes as Minister of National Security Bernard Nottage announced that overall crime in the Bahamas is down by 14 per cent, from January 1 to February 26, and murder is also down by 34 per cent.
While there is good work being done, he said, there are still far too many crimes being committed by young men – the majority of whom are repeat offenders.

Well one way to get the crime statistics down is to not report or include certain crimes in the police reports. If it were not so serious I'd be laughing.

Such an 'honest' government we are dealing with...let's make ourselves look good by not discolsing all the facts...our loyal followers will accept them without question and think we are masters of their universe. We can do no wrong in their eyes.
Disgraceful...
