Masters softball: Truckers even series 1-1

THE Masters Softball League’s best-of-five championship series between the USS Truckers and Williams Construction Jets is all tied at 1-1.

The Jets took the opener 13-9 at the Archdeacon William Thompson Softball Park, Southern Recreation Grounds, on Saturday. But, in game two on Sunday, the Truckers came back to even the series with a 15-12 slug-fest.

Game three is set for 2pm Saturday and, if necessary, game four is slated for 2pm Sunday.

Jets 13, Truckers 9

Kirk Johnson had a perfect 3-for-3 day with three runs batted in (RBI) on a three-run home run, scoring twice. Lee Rahming was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored and Crestwell ‘The Bomber’ Pratt was 1-for-4 with two RBI in the win.

Danny Johnson helped out, going 2-for-3 with a RBI and four runs scored. Mario Ford was 1-for-3 with a RBI and three runs scored and Gary ‘Super’ Johnson was 1-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Ronald ‘Big Boy’ Seymour went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored to pace the Truckers. Keith Butler was also 3-for-3 with two runs scored and both Greg Taylor and Johnny Burrows were 1-for-4.

Truckers 15, Jets 12

Victor Bain went 2-for-3 with three RBI, scoring a run to lead the Truckers in their comeback win. Keith Butler was 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored, Greg Taylor was 1-for-4 with three RBI and Rory Newbold 1-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored.

In a losing effort, Gary Johnson was 3-for-5 with four RBI, scoring three runs, Mario Ford was 2-for-4 with a RBI and three runs, Danny Johnson 2-for-5 with two runs and Sewlyn McKenzie 2-for-3 with two RBI.

NOTES: The league is scheduled to hold a meeting for the major cook-out noon Saturday at the park for all executive members and those persons serving on the organising committee.

The cook-out is scheduled for April 27 at the park. All proceeds will go towards the league’s trip to Florida, starting on July 18.

The league is expected to take two teams to compete in an exchange exhibition series against the Senior Moments, who travel here every February to compete against players in the league.
