FORMER Acting Commissioner of Police Christopher McCoy has died at his home.
According to reports, Mr McCoy was found unresponsive by his wife shortly before 4pm.
Emergency Services Personnel were called and pronounced him dead on arrival. He was 60.
Mr McCoy started his career with the Royal Bahamas Police Force in 1970.
In 1984, he participated in a security and intelligence course in Jamaica, in 1988 a drug investigations course in Nassau and an Inspector’s Management Development course in Wakefield, England in 1990.
In 2002 and 2006, he attended an International Command Course and then a Strategic Management Course in Bramshill, England.
Mr McCoy also received the Emeritus Police Medal in 1995 and the Queen’s Police Medal (QPM) in 2008.
During his tenure on the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Mr McCoy rose through the ranks to become Assistant Superintendant of Police with responsibility for Abaco and Internal Security from 1995-2002. From 2002-2007, he was Chief Superintendant of Police.
In 2007, Mr McCoy became the Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Intel and Family Islands. He was also the head of the Road Traffic Department.
In 2009, he retired from the force with the rank of Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police. Mr McCoy joined ICS in 2010 as a Managing Consultant.
