FREEPORT – Bahamian authorities made a major drug bust at the Freeport Container Port on Wednesday, seizing more than $1 million of suspected cocaine.
Asst Supt Loretta Mackey said 147 pounds of cocaine were discovered inside a container at the port sometime after 7pm.
The exact street value is estimated at $1,325,000, she said.
According to police reports, a team of Drug Enforcement Unit officers responded to a call which alerted them to dangerous drugs at the container port.
During the search of a container, officers and port officials discovered two large black duffle bags with a number of square black taped packages containing suspected cocaine.
No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing into the matter.
