THE National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) conducted a community emergency response team exercise in North Eleuthera as part of ongoing disaster training in communities.
Working with the Bahamas Red Cross, NEMA conducted the exercise with 15 residents from Gregory Town and Hatchet Bay.
Lead instructors were Gayle Outten-Moncur, Senior Assistant Secretary, NEMA and Wendell Rigby, Assistant Supplies Officer, NEMA.
The basic training the residents received prepared them to be self-sufficient in the event of a disaster or any emergency the community might face.
They were also trained to work as a team and to organise assistance for specific areas such as medical help, rescue from collapsed structures, fire fighting and search and rescue.
