Shipping executives gather for conference

MORE than 200 of the region’s most prominent shipping executives will converge on Grand Bahama for the 12th annual Caribbean Shipping Association Conference.

The event is slated for May 12–15 at the Grand Lucayan Resort, and is expected to attract decision makers from some of the biggest names in the industry, from Europe, North America, Latin America and the Caribbean region.

This year’s event is hosted by the Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) in partnership with the Freeport Harbour Company (FHC) and The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA).

“There is no question about it, Grand Bahama Island plays a pivotal role in the Western Hemisphere’s shipping and trade routes,” said Ian Fair, GBPA Chairman.

“At present, we are one of very few ports in the hemisphere that is prepared for the completion of the Panama Canal’s expansion. This is something we should not only be proud of, but be proactive in taking advantage of opportunities the Canal’s expansion will create.”

Under the theme “Strengthening Productivity”, conference speakers will cover an array of pertinent topics relative to the Maritime, Trade, Shipping and Energy sectors.

Prime Minister Perry Christie will be the keynote speaker for the conference’s opening ceremony, along with a number of industry professionals.
