AS Mother’s Day approaches, three mums were honoured, awarded and showered with gifts yesterday by a 33-year-old organisation established by the mother of the Bahamas’ first Governor General.

At the ‘Pre-Mother’s Day Annual Awards and Presentation’ service at St Gregory’s Anglican Church, Sybeline Ferguson, Carilee Rolle and Naomi Lightbourne joined scores of mothers who were honoured over the past 33 years by the Bahamas Mother’s Club, which was founded by the late Frances Manester Butler, mother of Sir Milo Butler.

Mrs Ferguson, a 62-year-old mother of seven, was named ‘Mother of the Year 2013-2014’ and on receiving her awards and gifts, thanked club members and thanked God “for being a great God.”

Carilee Rolle, a 54-year-old mother of three, was awarded ‘Unselfish Mother 2013-2014’ for her efforts to help build the Bahamian community, including her volunteer work with institutions like the Simpson Penn Centre for Boys.

Naomi Lightbourne, 93, was named ‘Oldest Mother of the Year 2013-2014.’

Lady Joan Foulkes, wife of the Governor General, Sir Arthur Foulkes, thanked all the mothers, especially those receiving honours, for their service to the community and wished them all the best in their efforts going forward.
