BUT names candidates

THE Bahamas Union of Teachers has released its list of candidates for next month’s union election.

Thirty-three candidates will vie for 15 vacancies during BUT’s general and distract elections which will be held on June 11.

Four candidates were originally not approved by the candidates committee following deliberations but upon an appeal to the election commissioner one was approved while the remaining three were concluded to “clearly” not be eligible to participate.

There will be no ballots for the position of area vice president for southern Bahamas as the incumbent was the only approved candidate and is therefore unopposed.

The candidates are as follows: Stephen McPhee and Belinda Wilson for president; Adeltis Bain-Stubbs, Zane Lightbourne and Claranell Davis-Smith for vice president; Jacqueline McKenzie, John Musgrove, and Jeleah Turnquest for secretary general; Joan Knowles-Turnquest and Indiana Thompson for assistant secretary general; Lorraine Knowles and Andrea Lockhard for treasurer; Terez Conliffe and Kim Williams for assistant treasurer.

Quintin Laroda, Roy Roberts, and Rolle Vinson are the candidates for area vice president of Grand Bahama; William McFord and Sharon Rahming for area vice president of New Providence; Chantell Cox and Sandra Marshall-Frobes for area vice president of northern Bahamas; and Annafaye Knowles is the only candidate for area vice president of southern Bahamas.

Candidates for trustee are: Margaret Major-Albury, Leason Burrows, Mizpah Pintard-Munroe; Tanya Sears-Stubbs, and Haldane Stubbs. Candidates for executive member are Charles Adderley, Tiffancy Delancy, Virginia Johnsin, Juliamae Johnson-Roberts, Dannica Martin, and Philip Sturrup.
