Healing and restoration

By Rev Angela Palacious

Healing is a process that involves admitting one’s human agony, acknowledging past hurts, and feeling unhealed pain.

Writing in a journal, prayer counselling, sitting in silence, listening to music, these are some of the ways to release pain.

Once the process begins, the next step is to accept the healing by permitting the tears to flow, witnessing prayerfully, praising God, and serving joyfully.

Sharing with a prayer partner is still an excellent activity in order to face unresolved issues, and have a companion on the spiritual journey towards wholeness.
The restoration of broken relationships is recorded in the stories of the Prodigal Son, David and Absalom his son, Abraham and Hagar and Sarah. The Bible is full of incidents that require forgiving and being forgiven.
Ask yourself the following questions? Who do I have to forgive and for what? Who has to forgive me and for what? How long ago did these various situations occur? How does it feel to apologize or extend forgiveness to someone else? How often do I try to make it up (offer restitution).
May 9 was Ascension Day for many Christians who celebrate a liturgical calendar. It is forty days after Easter, and it reminds us that we have an Intercessor in high places. What do you need the Lord to release you from so as to restore you on the path of righteousness? Your guilt, shame, sorrow, pain and every other burdensome emotion may now be offered to One who has proven Himself to be loving, forgiving and faithful.
Why not begin to call out to the Lord in the quiet of your heart right now, asking for relief and release, restoration and regeneration so that you may walk with lightness of heart and quickness of step? It is your choice to stay as you are or reach out for help.
We know that many people around us are hurting. Pray to be more sensitive and caring, even as you strive with God’s help to more forgiving and forbearing. Decide to be more like the Lord, and ask the Holy Spirit to complete the transforming work that Jesus Christ began on the cross. God bless you today and always.
