POLICE have four men in custody and are still searching for a fifth man in connection with the shooting death of 34-year-old American Kyle Bruner.

Bruner, an American sailor, was apparently trying to help a woman who was being mugged by two armed men early Sunday morning when he was shot in the neck.

Paul Rolle, Officer in Charge of the Central Detective Unit, said police are still on the hunt for a fifth man in connection with the murder.

“We are still looking for 18-year-old Leo Bethel. His last known address is Balls Alley off Shirley Street. From our information we understand that five persons were in the vehicle. When we first disseminated the wanted bulletins we were going off witness accounts but now our investigations tell us that other parties are involved.”

Officers of the Selective Enforcement Team (SET) arrested the fourth suspect around 4:20am Wednesday.

He is a 21-year-old man of Apache Alley off Kemp Road.

On Monday officers of the Mobile Division arrested 19-year-old Antone Bastian of Abraham Street and a 20-year-old male of Clarke Alley off Abraham Street.

On Tuesday, a 28-year-old man of St James Road was arrested.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Leo Bethel is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.

Bruner, a sailor, had been working as first mate on the Liberty Chipper sailboat that was passing through the Bahamas and was docked at Nassau at the time of the shooting.

According to international reports, Bruner will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered in the ocean.

In other news, police are searching for a man who shot two men while in Flamingo Gardens.

It happened around 11:20pm on Wednesday.

Police say the victims, ages 24 and 25, were in the area of Nigeria Drive when they were approached and shot by the occupant of a silver coloured Honda Torreno.

The victims were taken to hospital in a private vehicle. They are listed in stable condition.

Investigations continue.
