A new teen queen reigns over the nation

Despite a forty-five minute delay in the start of the pageant, the Rainforest Theatre on Cable Beach came alive on Sunday evening as eleven young women competed for the title Miss Teen Bahamas International.

Each of the five finalists was asked the same question: “Miss Teen International (the international competition) is based on what past work young ladies have done, what current work they are doing and what future work they intend to do with their platform. Please tell the audience what you have done, what you are doing and what you will do to advance your platform.” The young woman who rose above her peers to win the crown was Angel Cartwright. She informed the audience that she had been involved in Youth Parliament, and worked on her platform for several years in the areas of youth development and empowerment. She intends to start an organisation which would share a similar goal to that of the Miss Teen Bahamas International.

Miss Cartwright is in for year filled with public appearances, charity work and competition, in the Miss Teen International pageant, which will be held in July in Chicago, Illinois. Her court includes Brieonna Russel, First Runner-up; Meghan Knowles, Second Runner-up; Davinca Cleare, Third Runner-up and Rhodesia Johnson, Fourth Runner-up. Other participants were Kahilya Munroe, Alliea Campbell, Brittany Neely, Frandesha Major, Alexandria Stubbs and Niesha Williams.

The proceedings were punctuated with performances by Julian Believe, Veronica Bishop and Jermaine Smith (the Karoke King).
