ACTIVIST Rodney Moncur claims he is not threatened by Haitian’s Flag Day and that Bahamians could learn lessons from the nationals of our the neighbouring country.
Speaking to The Tribune about the criticism and debate on social media
concerning the annual celebration, what the flag raising encourages and whether they should be allowed to do so, Mr Moncur said he is not threatened by persons hoisting Haiti’s flag in the Bahamas.
“The Bahamas is a democratic nation and we allow persons to exercise certain freedoms. I see Canadian flag. I see American flag,” he said.
“Yesterday (Sunday) I stood in solidarity with Haitians as I raised the Haitian flag. If you were to come to my office, you will see that I have a brand new Haitian flag.”
“I am not threatened by persons who are Haitians or persons of Haitian descent hoisting their flag.”
Mr Moncur believes that Bahamians should have a flag day as well, considering that the country, in a few weeks, will celebrate its 40th year as an independent nation.
“ We celebrate 40 years of Independence. No Negro, please quote me correctly, no Negro who has led this country, has said to us as a nation, ‘Let us celebrate Flag Day,’”Mr Moncur claimed.
“The Haitians taught me the significance of celebrating flag day. Also, by me seeing them celebrating it, they have taught me some valuable lessons in family life.”
The Bain Town resident admires their care for women, children and appreciation for work and getting an education.
“I think these are valuable lessons that we can learn from our Haitian brothers and sisters. And we should not be intimidated. I think these Bahamian Negroes have to learn to love themselves, and love other Negroes,” Mr Moncur said.

Hey Mr. Moncur - while you're at it, why don't we just change our Flag to be the Haitian flag. We can share the same flag.
It will probably happen in about 10 years anyway - so let's just get it over with, eh?
