Fans who turned out for game one of the Junior Baseball League of Nassau (JBLN) championship series on Saturday were treated to three unbelievable comeback games and three walk-off wins for teams to take a one game lead in their respective series.
TEE BALL
Raptors 12, Hot Fries 11
After scoring five runs in the top of the first inning, the Hot Fries’ defence broke down and allowed the Raptors to score seven in the bottom of the inning.
However, fantastic defence by both teams saw the Raptors being shut out in the second and third innings while the Hot Fries could only score three runs.
Heading into the fourth inning, the score was 8-7 in favour of the Hot Fries.
The Hot Fries were held to three runs in the top of the fourth and held a 11-7 lead heading to the bottom of the inning.
After scoring four runs to tie the game and two outs, the Raptors had a runner on second base.
A double to left centre field scored the winning run and the Raptors took the game in walk-off fashion.
MAJOR LEAGUE
Reds 15, Mets 11
The Reds stormed out to a 10-3 lead after four innings - game over. Not so fast. - Coach Jackie Wright, having used ace pitchers Shaquille Rolle and Daalen Adderly in the early innings, turned the ball over to Mickhail Gordon in the fifth to close the game.
After a combination of timely Mets hits and Reds errors, the game was tied at 11-11 going into the bottom of the sixth.
The Reds loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth and at the plate came league leading batter Wycliffe Wallace.
Wycliffe then hit a towering grand slam home run over the left field fence for the walk-off win.
SENIOR LEAGUE
Brewers 16, Giants 15
The pennant winning Brewers spotted the Giants an early inning 12-5 lead but came storming back in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game 15-15.
After loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning and with two outs, Giants pitcher Justin Sweeting walked Joshua Sands. The winning run was scored with a bases loaded walk-off win.
GIRLS SOFTBALL
Shippers 14, Oilers 12
In an unbelievable comeback, the Shippers turned a 12-3 fourth inning deficit to a 14-12 win over the pennant winning Oilers.
Shippers pitchers and excellent defence shut out the Oilers in the last three innings to take game one.
JUNIOR LEAGUE
Phillies 19, Rays 12
The pennant winning Phillies kept their undefeated record by beating up on the Rays to take a one-game lead.
