‘Flood water was so high I had to sleep in my ceiling’

IN Fox Hill, a workman living on Davis Street said that the flooding was so high in his house that he had to sleep in the ceiling.

He said that because of the 2-foot high water in all Davis Street homes, no one could sleep in their beds, they had the choice of standing up in water all night or taking to the rafters.

“Man, it did us bad in Fox Hill, last night,” he said with a shake of the head. “It was a rough night!”

Yesterday, he said, Davis Street homes were still flooded.

“We are using boards as a bridge today to get out of our homes. The park is also flooded,” he said.

“Last night the police did a good job of patrolling the area to make certain that no one was endangered. And this morning the Fox Hill MP announced on the radio that anyone who could not stay in their homes should go to St Mark’s Church, which had been opened as a temporary shelter.”

Also in Fox Hill, a New Yorker, who arrived on a cruise ship yesterday morning, wanted to visit her sister’s grave in St Anselm’s cemetery, while here.

However, when she got as far as Blanco Bleach on Fox Hill Road the water was so high that she had to turn back. The cruise ship left yesterday evening.
