Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has part-sponsored the production of ‘Womanish Ways, Freedom, Human Rights and Democracy’, a documentary about the women’s suffrage movement in the Bahamas.
Additionally, as official bank sponsor of the 2012 Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF), RBC sponsored the Festival’s Caribbean Spotlight category that included the screening of ‘Womanish Ways, Freedom, Human Rights and Democracy’.
After several successful screenings in the Bahamas, Tennessee and Jamaica, producers of the film have released its DVD. Marion Bethel-Sears, its director and producer, recently presented a copy of the DVD to RBC Royal Bank.
“RBC is proud to have been a part of the production of ‘Womanish Ways, Freedom, Human Rights and Democracy’,” said Tanya McCartney RBC FINCO’s managing director.
“RBC is committed to supporting youth development in our communities. History is vital in helping young people to understand where they come from and learn about their future roles as members of our society.”
‘Womanish Ways, Freedom, Human Rights and Democracy’ DVD is available from Logos Bookstore, the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas, Buy the Book and Chapter One Bookstore.
The Bahamian public will get to see it on the big screen on Wednesday, May 29, and Thursday, May 30, at Galleria Cinemas’ JFK location at 7pm.
