242 Colour Run to celebrate Bahamas' Independence

THE 242 Colour Run is set to premier in Nassau on Saturday, July 13, designed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Bahamas’ Independence. The event will benefit the Rotary Club of East Nassau and the Rotaract Club of East Nassau.

Registration is now open online, with more details at www.run242.com. Participants can also register at any of The Sports Center

locations.

The 5km (3.1 miles) event is designed to be fun for all – with no winners or official times, participants can feel free to run or walk the event at their own pace. The community building event is to be fun and family friendly, and to bring Bahamians together to celebrate our 40 years of independence.

The unique twist to the 242 Colour Run is that there are colour stations on the course – at each station the participants will run through a different colour, ending the race covered in multiple colours.

The colour powder used is biodegradable and non-toxic. The colour party continues after the finish, as colour is thrown into the air and music and festivities will be provided.

The course will start at 8am and finish by 9:30am at Montagu foreshore. After the start, the participants head west along East Bay Street, over the old bridge, back over the Sir Sidney Poitier Bridge, and return to the finish by Fort Montague. The course will be closed to traffic by the Royal Bahamas Police Force to ensure the safety of the participants and volunteers along the way.

So far, the response to the event has been overwhelming. Over 1,000 persons have “liked” the event on Facebook, and already many individuals and teams have registered for the event. Those that register online before May 31 receive a discounted entry fee. The number of participants will be limited, and after those spots are filled the event will be closed – those interested should register early either online or at The Sports Center to ensure their spot in the 242 Colour Run.

While there are no rules on what to wear, participants are encouraged to wear white to showcase the multiple colours from the course. Teams are also encouraged to participate. There will be prizes for the most colourful individuals and teams, the best dressed, as well as other categories. There will also be random prize drawings for those taking part.

The event is designed to be family friendly, and open to all regardless of age or athleticism. A limited number of free registrations for those under five years of age are available with a parent’s registration.
