BOWLING

CITY BOWLING LEAGUE

THE lanes at Mario’s Bowling & Entertainment Palace were on fire Monday night as the City Bowling League continued its regular season action.

In a spectacular display of excellent bowling, Joanne Powell shot scores of 246, 221 and 245 for a 712 highest ladies’ three-game set ever in the Bahamas. Powell led Bahamasair Flyers past the first place team of Telco Enterprises 2-1.

A big 600 set also came from Xynea Johnson of Phil’s Food Services who shot a 633 set to earn the ladies’ runner-up MVP award. Not far behind was Driskell Rolle with a 246 second high game and also a 630 three game set.

The men were led by an outstanding performance from Kevin B Williams of Asue Draw Knights who crushed the pins for a 247 high game and a 701 high three game set. Williams therefore became a 700 club member for the first time.

Lee Davis of Ten Back Strikers toppled the pins for the second high set of 620.

BAY STREET MILE

THE Bahamas Track and Field Coaches Association is scheduled to hold the Bay Street Mile 6am Saturday from in front of the Bay Street Straw Market. The event will end up at Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association (BASRA) on East Bay Street. Runners will get a chance to compete for prizes in all age group categories.

The event is being sponsored by Virgo Car Rentals and is a part of the Coaches’ Week of activities set to end with a church service 10am Sunday at Bahamas Faith Ministries.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

ROAD RACE

THE Kids’ Athletics Academy is scheduled to hold its first road race for kids between the ages of five and 13 10am Saturday at the Bahamas Hot Rod Association’s Motorsports Park at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre. The road race will coincide with the Bay Street Mile to be held earlier in the morning. Trophies will be presented to the first three finishers in each category, while medals will be given to the top 10 finishers.

NPCA SEASON ENDS

THE New Providence Cycling Association’s 2013 season has come to an end and the association extends its thanks to all who have supported them over the years. As they look forward to 2014 with great anticipation, the association is looking at adding some new and exciting events on the cycling calendar.

BSC CLASSIC

THE Baptist Sports Council has announed that the Caribbean Bottling Company Limited, through its product Coca-Cola, has agreed to sponsor the 2013 Softball Classic that

got started Tuesday night in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

The 2013 Coca-Cola Softball Classic will feature the 19-and-under, co-ed and men’s divisions. Games will be played every Tuesday and Thursday nights at the Banker’s Field, starting at 7pm and again on Saturday, starting at 10am.

BLTA

IN order to continue to elevate the profile and the game of tennis in the Bahamas, the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association is inviting all tennis coaches and persons interested in coaching to attend a meeting at the National Tennis Center 6pm today (November 6).

“The Bahamas’ tennis success in 2013 is not circumspect, but the result of coaches putting in the time to ensure our kids have a strong foundation,” the BLTA said in a press release. “We are committed to the continual success and recognise that if local coaches are working together and supporting the development of our youth, the sky is the limit to how far we can go as a tennis power in the world.”

Coaching is one of the corner stones of success in any sports programme and the BLTA would like to see more collaboration between coaches, thus the endorsement for the need of a National Tennis Coaches Association.

BAAA MEETING

THE Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) is scheduled to hold their general meeting today in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture’s conference room, starting at 7pm.

BOXING

CHAMPION SHOW

AFTER calling off its show that was to have returned to the Fish Fry at Arawak Cay, Champion Amateur Boxing Club will present “Saturday Night Live Boxing” at the Wulff Road Boxing Square 6pm Saturday November 9.

The main attraction will be between Keiron Knowles and Javano Collins. Five other matches are also scheduled. All amateur boxers and boxing clubs are invited participate.

BAISS SOFTBALL

AFTER six weeks of regular season play it has now come down to the top four schools in each division to move on to the knockout playoff round. The junior divisions will start each evening session at 4pm and then the senior teams will play after at Freedom Farm Baseball Park. The playoffs and championship dates are as follows:

BASEBALL

JBLN REGISTRATION

THE Junior Baseball League of Nassau completed its registration and draft process for the 2014 season. The season is slated to begin on January 18 as the JBLN celebrates 25 years as the premier youth baseball and softball organisation in the Bahamas.

The 2014 season will feature a record number of 475 boys and girls and 39 teams playing organised baseball and softball. Visit their new website www.jblnbaseball.com for further details.
