THE Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s annual Family Fun Day and Steak Out was once again hailed a great success.
The event, held over the weekend, is a tradition designed to promote camaraderie among Defence Force Officers and Marines and to provide an opportunity for members of the public to observe a bit of military culture.
The Fun Day also provided a fun atmosphere for families and friends to gather and engage in many activities on the Coral Harbour Base, including a kiddie’s corner with face painting; games, bouncing castles, a paint ball shooting range, movies and boat rides.
Popular Bahamian and military cuisine was the order of the day.
Also featured was a martial arts display by the J-line Fitness School and Bysung Institute; a presentation by the Sister, Sister Breast Cancer Support Group; karaoke, chess and bid whisk competitions; an egg and spoon race; tug of war; and special performances from the Defence Force Commando Squadron Unit and the Urban Renewal and Defence Force marching bands.
In the evening, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force dance band took centre stage and entertained the large crowd with selections of local hits. This year’s family Fun Day was said to be the best thus far, with a turnout of more than 4,000 persons.
Commander of the Defence Force, Commodore Roderick Bowe, thanked the Officers and Marines, members of the 2013 Family Funday committee, visiting organisations and vendors, relatives and friends, members of the general public and the media for their support.
Commodore Bowe said that as per tradition, the proceeds of this year’s Family Fun Day will be used to subsidise many of the Defence Force’s moral, welfare and outreach initiatives.
