BAHAMIANS in the Holland College football programme have grabbed headlines recently with their Atlantic Football League title win. Now, a member of the women’s basketball programme is having an immediate impact in her first year with the programme.

In her first official regular season game with the Hurricanes, Ashley Moss delivered a dominant performance in her team’s season opener. Moss was the catalyst in the Hurricanes’ 85-31 over the Dal-AC Rams when she finished with a double double - 19 points and 12 rebounds. Her dominance on the defensive end also included three blocks and three steals.

For her efforts she was named the Hurricanes’ Women’s Student Athlete of the Week.

Holland is slated to host its home opener 4pm November 16 when they take on the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics at the Centre for Community Engagement.

Moss is a part of a highly touted incoming class which has the Hurricanes ranked No.10 in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association rankings. They were also the only team in the ACAA to be nationally ranked.

Moss is a Bahamian national team member and multiple All-Star selection with the Bommer G Angels of the New Providence Basketball Association.

At the high school level, she starred for Faith Temple Warriors. She is currently enrolled in the sports and leisure management programme at Holland.

“I want to be a better person and player at the same time, and Holland College seems like the right place to be to make that happen,” said Moss, a cousin to former Hurricane and current UPEI Panther Donnie Moss.

“She is a tremendous athlete, shot blocker and rebounder. Once she gets comfortable with the Canadian game, she is really going to be an impact player in the league,” said Hurricanes’ head coach Mike Connolly in an interview with the Moose Jaw Times Herald’s Jason Malloy.
