A MAN is now awaiting sentencing at Her Majesty’s Prison after he was convicted of burglary and rape by a Supreme Court jury yesterday.
Germon James Collie, 34, who has been on remand at Her Majesty’s Fox Hill Prison since being charged in connection with the June 2008 burglary and rape of a woman in Nassau Village, was found guilty of the two charges by a four man, five woman jury.
The jury was unanimous in its verdict on the charge of burglary, but split 7-2 on the rape charge.
However, Justice Roy Jones said a 7-2 guilty verdict is acceptable in law. He discharged the jury and thanked them for their service.
Justice Jones scheduled sentencing for January 24, 2014 after telling Collie that a social inquiry report would be prepared on him, and that the court would obtain more information regarding his antecedents.
Collie was remanded to Prison until then.
Terry Archer and Gordon Soules prosecuted the case.
