NIB Deputy Chairman Bernard Evans yesterday denied reports that the board’s chairman, Rev James Moultrie, has resigned.
According to sources at the National Insurance Board, it was claimed that Father Moultrie announced his resignation in a frustrated rant about the futility of his position.
It was claimed that Father Moultrie exchanged the company’s car for his own private vehicle after a full day of meetings, and told several staff members that he had resigned. He left sometime after 5:30pm.
Several staff members claimed that Father Moultrie said he was tired of having his decisions overridden by Labour Minister Shane Gibson, who has ministerial oversight of the board.
Last night, Mr Evans dismissed the report. He said that Father Moultrie was considering whether he would take on another top post.
“He has not resigned, I can confirm that,” said Mr Evans. “I know that he is being asked, along with NIB, to chair something else, and he’s trying to decide whether or not to accept this.”
“The board has put in place a wonderful director, so there is not really a need for a day-to-day, hands-on chairman and his talent is so much respected that they are also seeking to give him something else. But he is not stepping down.”
It was rumoured that he has been offered the post of chairman of the Public Service Commission.

And are we sure that the Public Service Commission doesn't have a wonderful director as well? Such that this post isn't needed either?

NIB Comrade "Deputy Chairman" Bernard rather than you humoring Bahamalander's, when the "acting" Deputy Chairman can tell 'The Chairman,' that; "The board has put in place a wonderful director, so there is 'not really a need for a day-to-day, hands-on Chairman." Why are taxpayers writing checks and providing a free car, to a man who has nothing to do over at NIB? Comrades ain't no way I could make this stuff up. This is the stuff why good Reality TV Shows work so damn well.

Tal raises a good point, if there is nothing to do, how did he get the appointment in the first place? I'm assuming that every tax dollar that any ministry spends comes out of a clearly defined need, especially in these times.
