TERRY Delancy and Anton Sealey Jr, two young Bahamian national team players furthering their education in two Florida universities, had different results on the spectrum for their respective soccer teams in the American Athletic Conference playoffs over the weekend.
Delancy, a member of the under-17 and under-20 men’s teams, was more successful as a forward as his University of South Florida Bulls pulled off a 6-5 win over the University of Connecticut Huskies in penalty kicks on Sunday afternoon at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas as they improved their win-loss-draw record to 8-3-9.
Delancy was named man of the match after he had an assist in the overtime that propelled the fifth-ranked USF to its first league title since 2008 and in the process, booked their ticket to their seventh NCAAtournment where they are scheduled to play the University of North Carolina Tar Heels on Thursday at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The winner of the match will move on to face No. 12 seed UC Irvine at 5pm Sunday in Irvine, California.
Meanwhile, Sealey, a member of the under-23 and men’s national teams, was unable to help his University of Central Florida Golden Knights as a defender as they lost a 2-0 decision to UConn in the semifinal match.
The Golden Knights finished the year at 8-5-5 as they missed out on an opportunity to advance to the NCAA tourney.
