BOWLING
HANDICAP TOURNEY
THE Bahamas Bowling Federation Monthly Handicap Tournament for November was completed at Mario’s Bowling and Entertainment Centre with the following players selected as the top bowlers:
1st game - Gary Scavella of the BEC Shockers-City League with a
Scratch and Handicap for a 237.9 average
2nd game - David Slatter of Phil’s Food Services-City League and
Family Guardian-Bankers League with a 247 average
3rd game - Kayla Nixon of Assue Draw-City League with a 283.9 average
1st high set - David Slatter with a 735 scratch
2nd high set - Kayla Nixon with a 680.7 scratch
3rd high set - Kendyll Knowles with a 675.4 scratch
“We had a good field of 28 participants, slightly down from our record 31 last month,” said Clayton Gardiner, tournament director. “These tournaments are a self help effort by the federation to raise much needed funds and we encourage bowlers to participate.”
In the first game, Scavella beat out the field to emerge winner.
Several bowlers bowled comfortably over 200, but Scavella, aided by his handicap, was declared the winner.
In the second game, Slatter bowled a blistering 247 scratch to win. In the third game, Kayla Nixon clobbered the pins for a 200 plus scratch game and aided with her handicap, blew away the field with a total scratch and handicap combined of 283.9.
Nixon really threw the ball well in that third game and at one point, had eight strikes in a row.
For the overall set, Slatter stood tall with a 735 set (scratch) for 1st place, followed by Nixon with 680.7 and Kendyll Knowles quietly sneaked in for 3rd with 675.4. Knowles is bowling well in these monthly tournaments and I believe this is his 2nd tournament he was able to cash in on.
“We congratulate Gary (Scavella) and Kayla (Nixon) being 1st time
winners in this tournament,” Gardiner said.
