A dominant defence which forced five turnovers and a breakout performance on the groud propelled the Orry J Sands Pros to a decisive 28-6 win over the BaOilCo Jets in week four of the Commonwealth American Football League at the DW Davis field.

Charles Edwards Jr had over 100 yards rushing, over 40 yards receiving and two touchdowns as the Pros moved to 2-1 on the year. The Jets fell to 0-3.

Both offences struggled early on and it was the Jets’ defence that would force the game’s first turnover on an interception from Theo Knowles.

The Jets would be unable to capitalise on the good field position.

Both offences struggled for most of the first half until the Pros were able to string together a scoring drive through the air on their final possession of the half.

Devaughn Bain converted a third down with a pass on short yardage, Edwards took a wheel route out of the backfield for 40 yards, and Bain caught his third touchdown pass in as many games from 25 yards out for the first touchdown of the game with 1.7 seconds left in the half.

In the second quarter, the Pros’ defence would be the ones to take over with a series of key plays.

Guerrolice Collie intercepted a screen pass on the 15 yard line and returned it all the way to Jets territory to place the Pros back into the redzone on their opening drive of the second half.

Jamal Coleby, who finished with over 80 yards rushing, dominated the drive and scored from 10 yards out to give the Pros a 12-0 lead.

Backed up against their own goaline following a poor snap, Eugene Bain came up with the sack, strip, fumble recovery in the endzone for a safety and a 14-0 Pros lead.

Edwards would score his first touchdown of the game on a long yardage run to put his team ahead and a successful two point conversion opened a 22-0 margin.

Theron Smith would catch the second interception for the Pros defence and nearly returned it 80 yards before he was forced out of bounds by a touchdown saving tackle within the 10 yard line.

The Pros would fail to convert, but Anton Coakley recovered his second fumble of the game and stifled a productive Jets drive that again reached the redzone but came away empty.

Edwards scored his second touchdown run of over 50 yards to put the game away late in the fourth quarter on a 28-0 lead.

The Jets were forced to keep the ball on the ground late with an ankle injury to quarterback Philmon Rolle, but were able to prevent the shutout with a late rushing touchdown.

In week five, the Jets are slated to face the 2-0 V8 Fusion Stingrays at the DW Davis field while the Pros will have a bye. Grand Bahama teams will join the schedule in week six.
