PRIME Minister Perry Christie had a bilateral meeting with John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand on Friday at the margins of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The two leaders discussed a number of matters including the relationship between the Bahamas and New Zealand; the Commonwealth (including the 2013 CHOGM theme); and UN issues (including New Zealand’s campaign for the United Nations Security Council for the term 2015 to 2016.)
Prime Minister Christie advised the Prime Minister of New Zealand about the proposed implementation of VAT in the Bahamas and enquired about possibilities for co-operation between the two countries on this matter.
Mr Christie also thanked New Zealand for its pledge of support to the Bahamas’ candidature for re-election to the Council of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the vote for which will take place in London on Friday, November 29.
