Protesting teachers block traffic in Rawson Square

More than 200 teachers marched on Rawson Square this morning, demanding the government addresses their outstanding labour dispute.

Educators were led by union president Belinda Wilson, who charged that Minister of Education Jerome Fitzgerald's public statements have been 'disrespectful' .

Traffic on Bay Street had to be diverted as the protestors locked arms, before sitting on the ground and chanting for almost half an hour.

No wonder kids are coming out of school clueless, with so called "teachers" like this.

I'm all for protesting if there is a real need, but how dumb can you be to obstruct your number 1 industry in the country, tourism. Are they that retarded they don't realize that if the tourists don't come back, there will be no schools to teach in, no kids to teach, and they will simply be without a job anyway. If you want to protest, do it away from the tourist, in fact do it somewhere that Bahamians can actually hear and see you.

News media, please don't give bay street protesters any press time, they are traitors and they do not deserve it. And BTW these union leaders should be charged with terrorism.

I disagree with some of what you say. Actually the most important thing in this country is education, not tourism. If we had an advanced standard of education, we would have less crime, more successful business entrepreneurs and more tourists.

There is no pressing issue that warrants teachers to be on Bay Street protesting at this time...well maybe except Belinda Wilson's craving need to be continuously in the spotlight. Does it have anything to do with menopause?...then maybe she needs to go back to teaching PE where she can prance around in tights with young teens all day and feel young again.... But then again she was absent half the time.

Congratulations Ms. Wilson for organizing a peaceful protest.

If more Bahamians participated in this sort of protest every time the PLP & FNM did something stupid we would have a better country!
