TWO WOMEN and two men were charged in Magistrate’s Court yesterday with the murder of businessman Kurt McCartney.

A third man, 42-year-old Terry Delancy, the owner of Virgo Car Rental, was charged with being an accessory after the fact.

Lyndera Curry, 20, Sumya Ingraham, 26, both of Plantol Street, with Thorne Edwards, 23, and Okell Farrington, 31, of Pinewood Gardens appeared before Magistrate Andrew Forbes in court #8.

It is claimed that concerned together the four accused intentionally caused the death of Richard Kurt McCartney on October 24.

They were also charged with armed robbery.

It is claimed that concerned together and armed with a handgun, they robbed Richard Kurt McCartney of a 2007 Hummer car, valued at $37,000. McCartney, who is the brother of DNA Leader Branville McCartney, was shot and killed in Gambier Village.

His Hummer was discovered by police a few hours after his death east of Traveller’s Rest Restaurant.

They were not required to enter a plea to either of the charges and were denied bail.

Delancy was independently charged with accessory after the fact. It is claimed that on November 19, Delancy assisted in enabling Curry, Ingraham, Edwards and Farrington to avoid due process of the law.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge. His lawyer, Ian Cargill, pleaded with Magistrate Forbes to grant his client bail.

Cargill argued that Delancy was a prominent businessman with over 30 employees and two small children at home.

The prosecution objected to bail claiming that the investigation was still continuing and if Delancy were granted bail he would interfere with the investigation.

However, Cargill said the charge was a misdemeanour and the court could not deny his client bail because he “was a man who found a gun and turned it over to police.”

”This is a travesty of justice,” said the lawyer, “this man found a firearm and handed it to police, now he is being charged. He is prepared to report to the police station everyday if you ask him. He has a medical history and he is prepared to pay cash.”

Delancy was granted bail in the amount of $15,000 with one surety. He also will be electronically monitored.

Magistrate Forbes also ordered that Delancy have no direct or indirect contact with any witnesses or anyone involved in the case or his bail would be revoked and he would be remanded into custody.

All of the accused will appear in court 9 on November 26 at 10am for a status hearing.

Before leaving the courtroom, Edwards and Farrington told Magistrate Forbes that they were beaten while in police custody and needed medical attention. Both men also claimed  they received death threats from inmates at Her Majesty’s Prison and requested to be in protective custody.

Magistrate Forbes ordered that the men see a doctor and told them he would make the necessary arrangements with the Prison Superintendent.

Fourteen persons are listed as witnesses in this case. All of them are police officers.

I really want to know the details of this case.

Sigh, they look very sad. Five lives that could have been productive.

Life is all about choices. If the choice ever comes down to, "so and so make me so mad I going to kill them", talk to the pastor, a counsellor, the police, whomever and ask them for help on handling anger and how to forgive.

And stay away from marijuana, floating around does not help to build good stress management skills.

Stay away from alcohol. Marijuana doesn't make people too angry. There is a liquor store on every corner of Nassau, if you want to talk about drugs.

start talking don't cry,if you are innocent the truth will set you free

I've heard a lot of dodgy things about the 'finances' of Virgo...all rumors of course, from money laundering to stolen cars...maybe there is more to this guy than people know. But...the courts and the facts will have to prove their merit. Innocent until proven guilty right?? Maybe??

When you go to Goodman's Bay when Bahamians go to the beach (after Mother's Day) and walk through the car park. You will be amazed at how many Virgo car rentals there are. The cars are used and well used, with the rental plates, and yet judging by the amount of fast food garbage, and the lived-in look, they look like they have been rented for a year or more -- driving with the small spare tyre, without a headlight etc.

Remember now the Virgo car rental guy is not involved in the murder. He is an accessory after the fact. He found the gun and didn't turn it in right away. Maybe these guys (and girls) rented or borrowed a car from him to commit the murder and they left the gun in the car and he found it..I am saying maybe ..his charge is a minor one..not murder

Do you think John Daniel Hertz, Sr. or Jack Crawford Taylor cares that niggers, Jews and Mexicans rent their cars?

RIP Kurt, hopefully some truth comes out in this trial and that at least God's will be done as well as justice be served.

So let God's will prevail.

This isn't God's will -- this is the $50,000 Swift Justice that Bran's family is offering.

OMG What an unsavory looking lot of people. I wonder what the connection was with Kurt McCartney.

I certainly wouldn't have any dealings what so ever with the likes of these people.

The murder of Kurt appeared to be a personal and savage act and therefore, society would certainly be better off if the perpetrators were removed from amongst us. For this reason I am praying that the police would have done solid groundwork and dotted every i and crossed every t before bringing them to court. Also, without pre-judging the evidence, I am also praying that we have more of a motive than the armed robbery of a Hummer, because given the nature of this murder, the prosecutor would need all of our prayers and more trying to prove in court that four persons would committ this murder to try to steal a Hummer in Nassau, Bahamas with an accessory after the fact.
