TWO separate meetings were held last night on the proposed Value-Added Tax legislation.
Seabreeze MP Hope Strachan hosted a public information meeting at Sadie Curtis Primary School, where consultants from the government’s VAT committee gave a presentation on new tax structure and the need for tax refom.
Meanwhile, the Democratic National Alliance also held an information meeting to discuss alternative solutions to the proposed tax regime, and field questions from concerned persons at the Bahamas Public Service Union’s Hall.
DNA Leader Branville McCartney yesterday urged the government not to succumb to international pressure for the implementation of the new tax structure, underscoring the need to first correct egregious wastages and mismanagement of funds within the public service.
