BAHAMAS Electricity Corporation Chairman Leslie Miller said last night he had not been informed of union members being on a work-to-rule from yesterday afternoon.
Bahamas Electrical Managers Workers Union President Clinton Minnis said that from 4.30pm yesterday union members were on a ‘work-to-rule,’ until the issue of sick leave benefits was dealt with.
Mr Miller told The Tribune last night: “I’m not going to make any comment on it. I’ve not been informed of it by them.”
The union action was announced because of an ongoing dispute following Mr Miller’s announcement that beginning November 1, BEC employees will no longer be allowed to “double-dip” by collecting both NIB and their full salary.
Minnis said that engineers, managers, or any staff employed to give additional technical support to the restoration of electricity, will not do so if there were power cuts, a generator trips or any type of disturbance.
