SWIFT action by police led to the arrest of three Nassau Village men just hours after an armed robbery.
At around 2.30pm last week Thursday, two women were leaving the kitchen of a church on Williams Street and Stack Avenue, when two masked men, armed with a handgun, robbed them of their handbags and jewellery before speeding off in one of the victim’s car.
Later, just before 9pm, officers from the Selective Enforcement Unit, acting on a tip, went to Nassau Village, and detained three men, ages 38, 28 and 22, for questioning in connection with the matter.
Police also recovered some of the stolen items.
Later that night, officers patrolling in Pinewood Gardens detained two men, ages 32 and 34, for questioning in connection with the discovery of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.
The incident took place on Thatch Palm Avenue.
Police recovered another illegal gun in Pinewood Gardens on Saturday at around 6.30pm. Officers from the Firearms Tracing and Investigations Unit, acting on a tip, went to Buttonwood Avenue where they found the handgun hidden in an abandoned building.
Two other guns were discovered by police over the weekend, on in a garbage container in Kemp Road and another on Deveaux Street, along with a quantity of ammunition.
