FORMER member of parliament Frank Leopold Edgecombe was described as a humble standard bearer and loyal Fox Hillian as loved ones paid their final respects yesterday.
Dr Edgecombe was well known in Fox Hill where he grew up. Later, he served as the area’s representative in the House of Assembly for ten years.
He went on to serve as vice-president of the Senate for five years.
Following the end of his political life, Dr Edgecombe was praised for remaining integral to the continuing development of the Fox Hill community.
He was an active member of the Mount Carey Union Baptist Church, and its financial secretary and Sunday School superintendent for 27 years. The street on which he lived in Fox Hill, formerly called Springfield Road, was renamed in his honour in August of this year.
Dr Edgecombe was born to Daisy and Courtney Edgecombe on March 3, 1928. On November 12, 2013 he died at 85-years-old.
Among the mourners was Fox Hill MP Fred Mitchell, who called Dr Edgcombe his mentor.
He said: “His quiet presence was always there in the background as long as I have been the MP for Fox Hill. Not a lot of flourish but always great substance.
“He has left a legacy for Fox Hill. It is one I am proud to help to continue.
“In death I would like to say that my recollections of Mr Edgecombe are not sad ones but happy ones. He was always there in support of whatever we in the PLP were doing in this area.
“He was a party man, and he asked for little in return. He gave of his time, talent and money. For this, the local branch is deeply appreciative.”
Dr Edgecombe leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Clementina; a daughter, Norma Dean, and seven sons: Julian, Godfrey, Clement, Douglas, Alvin, Patrick and Wendell Edgecombe.
Prime Minister Perry Christie and other Cabinet Members attended the service.
