POLICE officers shot a 19-year-old housebreaking suspect after the man allegedly attempted to attack them with a screwdriver.

Around 1.15pm on Wednesday, officers received a report of a break-in in progress at a home on McKinney Avenue, Stapleton Gardens.

When they responded to the call, the officers met a man fleeing the home.

After a short foot chase they caught up with the suspect, who attempted to attack them with a screw driver.

One of the officers shot the suspect in the thigh.

He was taken to hospital and currently in stable condition.

In other crime news, officers recovered a stolen boat at Crab Cay off Great Exuma around 10pm on Monday.

The blue and white Florida registered 32-ft vessel was reported stolen from the Berry Islands over the weekend.

The officers found a quantity of marijuana and cocaine onboard, which they believe was destined for sale on the streets of Exuma.

No one has been arrested in connection with either of these incidents.

On Wednesday, officers found a high-powered assault rifle in Montell Heights, the area where four men were shot, with one of them dying, on Tuesday.

No one was arrested.
