A 49-year-old man was charged in Magistrate’s Court yesterday with statutory rape. He was accused of having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Joseph Andrew Foulkes, 49, of Yamacraw Hill Road, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Joyanne Ferguson-Pratt facing the single indictable offence to which he was not required to enter a plea.
Foulkes is claimed to have had sexual intercourse with the teenager between April and May 2012.
The alleged victim, under law, could not have given consent for sex due to her age.
The Tribune understands Foulkes was on police bail before the arraignment. He was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison until his next court appearance on October 7.
However, December 10 is the tentative date set for matters relating to his trial.
Foulkes was represented by lawyer Heather Hunt in yesterday’s arraignment.
