A MAN was sentenced to four years imprisonment yesterday after admitting that he tried to smuggle marijuana to Mayaguana in loaves of bread.
Henry Smith, a 59-year-old Mayaguana native, appeared before Magistrate Andrew Forbes on a single charge of possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply, which he pleaded guilty to.
It was claimed that on September 24 while at Betsy Back Dock in Mayaguana, he was in possession of a quantity of dangerous drugs.
Around 4.45pm that day, police in Mayaguana, acting on intelligence, conducted a search of the suspect’s bread shortly after he arrived on the mail boat. They uncovered a quantity of marijuana hidden on several loaves of bread. Smith was cautioned, arrested and taken into custody.
Smith, who was not represented during yesterday’s proceedings, wasted no time in pleading guilty to the charge and was sentenced to four years at Her Majesty’s Prison in accordance with amended law of 2011.
ASP Ercell Dorsett was the prosecutor.
