The Bahamas Financial Services Board’s (BFSB) initiative to recognise an outstanding graduating student from within the School of Business at the College of the Bahamas (COB) is now in its 12th year.
The initiative has been a joint venture, with a Working Group and Selections Committee comprising representatives from the BFSB-spearheaded Professional Industry Association Working Group (PIAWG), the College, and the Central Bank of the Bahamas.
A sub-group from the College has the responsibility for submitting the initial list of candidates, based on established criteria such as Grade Point Average (GPA), along with college and community involvement.
The Industry Selections Committee is then responsible for interviewing each of the short-listed candidates, with final scoring based on these interviews and a written submission.
The recognition programme is part of the BFSB’s Financial Services Industry Excellence Programme, which profiles outstanding professionals and executives within the sector.
The student award is an Investment Account, complete with investment management services. The Association of International Banks & Trust Companies in the Bahamas (AIBT), along with Societe Generale Private Banking, have come on board again this year as sponsors of the award, with CFAL managing the investment account.
The interviews and judging are in the final stages, with the 2013 Student of the Year set to be announced for the first time at BFSB’s 2013 Industry Awards Gala Dinner, scheduled for November 1 at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort.
