SOCCER

COB TEAM OFF

THE College of The Bahamas’ men and women’s soccer teams are off to Florida this week to compete in intercollegiate matches. The women begin competition today while the men travel today and begin competition on Thursday.

The schedule is as follows:

Women’s Soccer

October 9 @ 6pm - Broward Community College

October 10 @ 6pm - Palm Beach Atlantic College

Men’s Soccer

October 10 @ 3pm - Palm Beach Atlantic College

October 11 @6pm - Trinity Baptist College

The women’s team is coached by Vandyke Bethel and the men by Stephen Bellot.

SOFTBALL

NPOTSA ACTION

THE New Providence Oldtimers Softball Association continued its postseason action at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex over the weekend.

Cabinet World won the George Ferguson divisional championship title as first baseman Raymond Rolle was named the most valuable player. In 17 at-bats, Rolle had 13 hits, drove in three runs and scored seven times for a .764 batting average.

In the other half of the match-up, the Crusaders evened their series at 1-1 with Dozer Heavy Equipment with a 28-19 rout. The winning pitcher was Greg Thompson and the loser was Dwayne Dean.

VOLLEYBALL

Volleyball action continued Sunday at the D W Davis gymnasium. In the ladies’ match, the COB Caribs needed only three sets to defeat the Lady Techs 25-21, 25-18 and 25-23. Leading the charge for the Caribs and all scorers was Sydline “CeCe” Justilien with 13 points. For the Lady Techs, Eugenia Adderley finished with seven points.

In men’s action, the SAINTS won in straight sets over the Crimestoppers.

Games are scheduled to continue today.

BASKETBALL

NPBA PRE-SEASON

THE New Providence Basketball Association continued its pre-season tournament with two matches at the AF Adderley Gymnasium on Saturday night.

The Cleaners defeated the Wreckers 51-36 and the Giants beat the College of the Bahamas 56-45.

Two more games are set for today as the Cleaners take on the Giants at 7:30pm and the Pros play the losers between the Cybots and the Shockers at 8:30pm.

On Friday, the Defence Force will meet the winners between the Shockers and the Cybots at 7:30pm and the Wreckers will take on the winners between the PJCS and COB at 8:30pm.

The league will then take a break for the holiday weekend. Games will resume on Wednesday, October 16 with the Rockets facing the winners of Wednesday’s game 2 at 7:30pm. At 8:30pm, the losers of Friday’s game 1 will play the winners of Fridays’ game 2.

On Friday, October 18, the losers of Wednesday, October 9 game 1 will play the winners of Wednesday, October 16 game 1 at 7:30pm. At 8:30 pm, the winner of Wednesday, October 9 game 1 will play the winners of Friday, October 11 game 1. Games for Saturday, October 19 will be announced at a later date.

SOFTBALL

EXUMA SOFTBALL RAINED OUT

DUE to the rain on Saturday, the Exuma Softball Association has announced that game two of their men’s championship series is slated to be played 7:30pm Thursday. The best-of-three series is being played between the Pressure Hot Ballers and the Police Crimestoppers. The Hot Ballers won 10-7 in game one.

CYCLING:

HEROES DAY CLASSIC

THE first Heroes Day Cycling Classic is scheduled for 8am October 14 on the Grand Bahama Highway near the airport round-a-bout. BSC TRACK CLASSIC

REGISTRATION

THE Baptist Sports Council is asking all churches interested in participating in the 2013 Track and Field Classic to submit their team rosters by contacting Brent Stubbs at The Tribune or Ann Thompson at the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations’ office by Friday. The track and field meet is scheduled for 10am October 19 at the original Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium. All divisions in the men and women will be contested.

HOLY SPIRIT RUN/WALK

THE Holy Spirit Anglican Church is scheduled to hold a fun run/walk 6am October 19. The route will begin at the church on Howard Street and travel through the historic Chippingham area, passing Fort Charlotte on to West Bay to Goodman’s Bay (for walkers) and to the round-a-bout at Cable Beach (for runners) returning to the church. Participants will be grouped according to their sex and age as of December 31 and awards will be presented to the first place only in the U-15, U-20, U-30, U-40 and 40 & over in both the male and female categories. A trophy for the church or organisation with the most participants will be presented. Registration forms can be picked up and returned to the Holy Spirit Anglican Church Office on Granger Street, Chippingham. SOFTBALL: BSF TOURNEY

THE Bahamas Softball Federation has announced that its annual Austin ‘King Snake’ Knowles National High School Softball Tournament is slated to be played over the weekend of October 24-26 at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex. The federation is hoping to attract teams from throughout the Bahamas to participate in the senior boys and girls tournament. The tournament serves as a development for the federation, which looks at talented players to infuse into their senior programme within their affiliated island associations.

SOFTBALL: BSF NATIONALS

THE Bahamas Softball Federation is all set to hold its National Round Robin and Championship series over the weekend of October 31 to November 3 at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

The event is expected to attract the federation’s affiliated Family Island championship teams in both the men and women divisions, who will get to compete for the national championship title. The NPSA is now preparing to start its best-of-seven championship series this week to determine which teams will represent their association in the event.
