FREEPORT – The human skeletal remains that were discovered this year in Grand Bahama has been determined to be that of a male.
Asst Commissioner of Police Emrick Seymour said yesterday that forensic results indicate that the remains are that of an unidentified male skeleton.
“That is all we can say so far,” he said. “We are now in the process of setting about trying to identify who this individual was.”
It is not known whether foul play is suspected.
In May, police reported that human bones were discovered in bushes in the Heritage Subdivision area.
The bones had been at the location for a while, and police said that an autopsy would be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Police also issued an appeal to members of the public, especially persons with relatives who have been missing for a long time, for information that could assist with the identity of the remains.\
There have been several missing persons’ reports on file at the Royal Bahamas Police Force in Grand Bahama.
Bahamian David Keith Dean, 22, of Mayfield Park, Freeport, has been missing since March 2012.
Dean, who frequents Abaco, was last seen at 7.30pm on March 9, leaving his residence. He was reportedly wearing a long dark colour pair of jeans with long sleeve white jacket with black, white, red and yellow designs at that time.
Police on Grand Bahama has also received a missing person’s report on Canadian John William Batchelor, 72.
On January 19, 2012, a 30ft beige and red vessel, “Joy B” believed to be Batchelor’s boat, was discovered off West End between Sandy Cay and Memory Rock with a Canadian flag.
Batchelor is described as being 6’ tall with blue eyes. Krishanna Higgs, a 21-year-old mother of two, disappeared on January 12, 2011. Shanna has light brown complexion, and is five feet, six inches tall, with brown coloured hair and dark brown eyes.
Shanna was last seen wearing a black short sleeve shirt with gold design on front, dark blue jeans and gold slip on high heel shoes, in a sky blue Chevy Suburban, in Freeport, Grand Bahama.
Apart from her family and friends, Shanna has two daughters who miss her dearly, Kimora three years old and Ellie two years old.
