BASKETBALL
COOPER SIGNS WITH
MIAMI DADE
THE men’s basketball team at ULM continued to rebuild for the future with the commitment of Prince Cooper earlier this week. The 6’4” forward will play the 2013-14 season at Miami Dade College before joining the Warhawks in summer 2014.
“The programme has been down, but it’s rebuilding and I really want to be a part of it,”Cooper said. “I feel that with my physical play, I can really help the programme get to where we want to be.”
Cooper, originally from Piney Woods High in Mississippi, but of Bahamian decent, developed a relationship with ULM assistant coach Ryan Cross while being recruited out of high school. The two kept in contact, allowing for Cooper to come to the Monroe, La. campus recently for an official visit.
“I really like the school’s academic programmes,” he said. “I wanted to major in business management or kinesiology, and both are options there. I really like that ULM is a big campus, but not in a big city with distractions. Coach Cross came and watched me practice and then came and watched me at Miami Dade College.”
Described as a slasher, Cooper is a good mid-range shooter, as evident by his 11.1 point average his senior season at Pine Woods.
But before he makes it to ULM to begin his Warhawk career, his focus is on the Sharks.
“My goal this season is to finish strong and stay healthy,” he told WarhawkReport.com. “I want to take this season to work on my weaknesses and improve my strengths to get ready to play at ULM.”
