With hymns of praise and thanksgiving to God, members of St. Margaret Parish in Nicholls Town, North Andros rejoiced as their church was consecrated and rededicated on September 29.
The historic church of St. Margaret’s was established in 1838, the former dilapidated structure has been transformed to a sacred space of beauty. It not only meets current space needs for the congregation but also provides significant room for growth.
In his stimulating message, the Lord Bishop of the Diocese of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Rt. Rev’d. Laish Boyd said: “The construction works on St. Margaret’s Church were long overdue. I know that they had been anticipated on several occasions, under several incumbents, and had to be put off for various reasons. I commend the leadership given by Father Jude Edomwonyi in bringing this project to reality. This little church has been a beacon on the landscape and in people’s lives. Many have been baptized, confirmed, married and had loved ones funeralised here. The works done to expand and upgrade the edifice are welcomed jewels in an existing crown. It is also an investment in the future of ministry and community life in the area.”
Bringing remarks at the service was the president of the Bahamas Christian Council North Andros branch Rev. Dr. Philip Campbell, chief councillor for North Andros Vanda Rahming, former member of parliament for North Andros and the Berry Islands Vincent Peet and Deputy Prime Minister Philip Davis.
The Rev’d. Father Jude Edomwonyi, priest in charge of St. Margaret’s Parish, gave thanks to God and expressed his gratefulness to the parishioners and members of the wider community for working tirelessly to advance the interests and values of God’s kingdom here in North Andros.
He said, “A great debt of gratitude is owed for monetary commitment and the contribution of time and talent.”
About 280 excited parishioners and visitors attended the Solemn Pontifical Concelebrated Eucharist.
