Barracuda swimmers add names to record books

N’NHYN Fernander and Gershwin Greene are two swimmers from the Barracuda Swim Club whose names were added to the record books last weekend.

In the first swim meet of the season, hosted by the Sea Waves Aquatic Team, Fernander swam the 50m butterfly (boys 13-14) in 26.83 seconds, breaking the old record of 26.97 seconds set in April 2009 by Evante Gibson.

Greene swam the 50m freestyle (boys 13-14) in 24.64 seconds breaking his own record of 24.80 seconds that he set in May of this year.

“It is very difficult to break a record especially at the beginning of the season. I am very proud of these swimmers.

“They both train very hard and it is good to see their efforts pay off,” said Travano McPhee, senior competitive swim coach of the Barracuda Swim Club.

Club president Dion Gibson said: “This is an excellent start for what will be a fantastic year for our Barracuda swimmers. Our kids are ready to perform, and we look forward to seeing more records broken by our swimmers.

“We invite all swim fans to come out to the Betty Kelly Kenning Aquatic Center on Friday and Saturday, November 1-2 for the annual Barracuda/Family Guardian Swim Invitational.”
