SOFTBALL

BSF NATIONALS

WITH the Bahamas Softball Federation’s Austin Knowles National High School Softball Tournament completed over the weekend, the attention will now switch to the 2013 National Round Robin Championship series this weekend (October 31 to November 3)

at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

The tournament will feature Abaco, Andros, Grand Bahama, New Providence, Spanish Wells and Exuma on the men’s side. Teams in the ladies’ division will come from Abaco, Andros, Grand Bahama, New Providence and Spanish Wells.

Each team will play five games in the round robin and the top four teams in each division will advance to the playoffs to determine who will meet in the championships, which will honour long-time manager Alphonso ‘Chicken’ Albury, Grand Bahamian female player Nell Russell and Eleuthera’s pitcher Reggie ‘the Juicer’ Knowles.

The tentative schedule for the first two nights of competition is as follows:

Thursday

7pm - Grand Bahama vs Exuma (M)

8pm - Andros vs spanish Wells (M)

9pm - Andros vs Abaco (L)

10pm - New Providence vs Abaco (M)

Friday

5pm - Spanish Wells vs Andros (L)

6pm - Exuma vs New Providence (M)

7pm - Official Opening Ceremonies

8:30pm - Grand Bahama vs New Providence (L)

9:30pm - Abaco vs Andros (M)

10:30pm - New Providence vs Grand Bahama (M)

A series of games are on tap for 10am Saturday on the various fields.

Sunday

3pm - Ladies’ bronze medal game

4:30pm - Men’s bronze medal game

6pm - Ladies’ gold medal game

7:30pm Men’s gold medal game

9pm - Awards presentation

VOLLEYBALL

NPVA ACTION

THE New Providence Volleyball Association staged a triple header at the DW Davis Gymnasium on Sunday.

In the first match, the Lady Techs took four sets to put away the Young Cubs 25-23, 20-25, 25-20 and 25-22. Melissa Richards led the Techs with 10 points, including eight aces and also 15 assists. Teammate Rochelle Henfield? helped with four kills and two digs. Sonia Hinsey? had two receptions.

Alexandria Pinder led the Cubs with 7 points. She was assisted by Robyn Porter with five digs and five receptions and Alice Roberts with nine assists.

In the second match, Prince Wilson? led all scorers with 23 points (16 kills, five aces and one block) as the Warriors ruled over PASSE in five sets 25-18, 22-25, 25-11, 25-20 and 15-12. He was joined by Khayyam Minus’ three blocks, Victor Grant’s 20 receptions and Andreadie McPhee 46 assists.

In a losing effort, Carl Rolle? led PASSE with 12 points, Kyle McIntosh? 11 kills and was assisted be DeVince Smith with 2 aces, 2 receptions and 26 assists.

In the final match, Technicians defeated the National Fence Intruders 25-17, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-14. In the win, Dwayne Roberts? led all scorers with 19 points (12 kills, four blocks and three aces). Assisting were Renaldo Knowles? with four digs and JeVaughn Saunders? with three receptions and 14 assists.

In the loss, Daryl Dorsett? led with eight points, McLyn Rolle 10 receptions and Gaege Smith had 26 assists.

BOC TO HONOUR

BUTLER

UNDER the patronage of Governor-General Sir Arthur and Lady Foulkes, the Bahamas Olympic Committee is scheduled to hold a black tie awards and recognition ceremony and reception in honour of former president Sir Arlington Butler 5pm Friday, November 1 in the Ballroom at Government House. THE Baptist Sports Council has announced that due to the fact that the Bahamas Softball Federation has to play both its Austin Knowles National High School Tournament this weekend and the National Round Robin Tournament next weekend at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex, its 2013 Softball Classic will not begin until Saturday, November 9.

As a result of the late start, the league has announced that games will also be played on Tuesday and Thursday nights at the Banker’s Field.
