POLICE launched a major assault on crime last weekend that lead to the arrest of 120 persons and the issuance of 564 traffic tickets.

According to police, the operations saw police officers from various divisions fan out across New Providence targeting problem locations and those suspected of criminal activities including murder, armed robbery, rape, shootings, stolen vehicles, illegal firearms and drugs.

This initiative comes after Minister of National Security Dr Bernard Nottage said police will begin saturation patrols in hot spot crime areas.

Police are crediting the success “of this ongoing major assault on crime” to excellent team-work, intelligence led policing, precise execution of its policing plan and support from members of the public.

Police also announced that a 34-year old man is in custody in connection with a shooting incident that happened on Sunday.

According to reports, around 10.30pm, two men were involved in an argument on Australia Avenue, Elizabeth Estates, when one of them pulled out a handgun, shot the other, and fled on foot.

He was taken to hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

The suspect was arrested a short while later by police. Investigations are ongoing.
