THE man accused of murdering a bus driver and attempting to kill a passenger was arraigned in Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Stanley Telfort Francois, 24, of Palm Beach Street, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Joyanne Ferguson-Pratt to be charged with murder, attempted murder and two counts of armed robbery.

It is claimed that on August 19, he murdered jitney driver Gregory Adderley and attempted to murder his passenger Kenardo Rolle.

It is also alleged that he attempted to rob Rolle and Rhoda Munnings of cash and other items.

The incident happened around 6.15pm at Toote Shop Corner.

The bus driver was stopped on the corner when a gunman got on and demanded cash.

He robbed the driver and the passengers of an undetermined amount of money before shooting the two men and fleeing on foot.

Both victims were taken to hospital by ambulance, but the driver died of his injuries a short time later. The passenger, a defence force officer, was treated and discharged.

Francois was not required to enter a plea to the charges due to their nature and was told that his case would be fast-tracked to Supreme Court for trial through a Voluntary Bill of Indictment.

The case was adjourned with the accused being remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison without bail.
