HOURS after fire caused devastation in an inner city community, Urban Renewal officials were in the area to assess the needs of residents.

Speaking to The Tribune, co-chair Cynthia ‘Mother’ Pratt said the incident illuminated a need to clean up the area. She said the visit was her first to Homestead Street.

“We tried to get around and see what we can do to assist families,” Mrs Pratt said, “right now they are broken, they are hurting.

“A baby perished in that fire as well, so we thought that it was important for us not just to look at the family but to just go through the neighbourhood and see what the neighbourhood is like.

“We certainly are cleaning up a lot of the areas and this is actually my first time in this street. I had no idea what was here. Coming down here we can see the need is great for Urban Renewal assistance.

“Our plan is to come back on the street and try to clean up this area.”
