BEFORE setting his eyes on international success, emerging Bahamian artist Tru Story is adamant about Bahamians knowing who he is and what his music is all about.

After numerous performances and collaborations on the local music scene Tru Story has yet to garner a huge following locally. However, the artist said he will stay in the faces of music enthusiasts until everyone knows his name.

Tru Story pursuit’s has been constantly developing his portfolio, working on features and opening shows for other performers ever since he launched his professional career in music a few years ago. Last week the artist released a new single “How It Go”. In a few weeks he will release a new album “Book 1”.

“The album is a summary of my life, where I come from, the things that I stand for and the things that brought me to the point I am today. In the songs I talk about my hometown Andros, and how I am proud to be Androsian. Basically the album is a summary of my life and it gives listeners an introduction to me,” he told In Ya Ear.

Tru Story said the album is not a superficial one, where he raps about a fantasy life. He said it is important for him to be honest with listeners about who he is.

“The album is about things like relationships and some of the circumstances that I have been faced with that tried to hold me back. I do not rap about money, different women and things I do not have. I think that is a facetious rapper and if I rapped that way I would contradict who I am. I want my music to be different music than what is playing on the airwaves now. There is so much dark music out there. A lot of music is negative. But I want to make music that people can remember,” he said.

Tru Story said he was inspired to embark on a musical journey because he watched his parents struggle to make life good. He believes music is the way he can not only impact the lives of those who listen, but also change the lives of family members.

“To be honest I started writing just off the knowledge that if other people could do it, and make money from it, I can do the same. I am a firm believer that life is much more than struggling and I do not believe that God would design this earth for us to just struggle. My inspiration for my music really comes from being a nobody to being a somebody,” he said.

Tru Story has been rapping for the past thirteen years and hopes to become a force to reckon with not only locally but internationally.

“For a while now I have been trying to get my break and get more exposure. I perform whenever I get a chance to. It has been a real push over the last five years to get some support. I am pushing to get internationally recognised. I just want the Bahamas to love me and know me so that at the end of the day if I make it, the Bahamas makes it. I would feel better making it at home first rather than going abroad to make it big and people at home do not know who I am,” Tru Story said.

In the past Tru Story has opened shows for Jah Cure, Sizzla, and has performed with Sasha Dunn, Dumbo, Young Magic and many others.

Tru Story’s new single was released on Youtube, Facebook, Myspace and Sound Cloud. A music video for “How it Go” is also expected to drop on October 1.
